New NSIA-MedServe deal to expand healthcare, create jobs, says Wale Edun

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has described a new healthcare investment agreement as a major driver for job creation and economic growth in Nigeria.

The agreement, signed in Abuja on Thursday, brings together the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and MedServe to expand nationwide access to diagnostics, oncology, and cardiology services.

Speaking at the signing, Minister Edun reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening healthcare through increased investment and effective public-private partnerships.

He cited the NSIA’s growing oncology network as evidence that world-class healthcare facilities can be built locally, generating jobs, attracting capital, and reducing Nigeria’s multibillion-dollar medical tourism expenditure.

“Healthcare is both a public necessity and a growth sector,” Edun said, emphasising that stronger domestic capacity boosts productivity, retains capital within the economy, and supports long-term human capital development.

He commended the IFC for its role in the partnership, describing the model as scalable, combining financing and technical expertise to unlock private investment and widen access to care, with additional support from the World Bank.

Edun further urged that the NSIA-MedServe model be replicated across other sectors, calling it a blueprint for inclusive growth, stronger public services, and long-term economic resilience.

The partnership is expected to drive self-reliance in healthcare, create employment opportunities, and keep Nigeria’s capital at home.
