New U.S. Consul General Rick Swart arrives in Lagos

The United States Embassy has announced the arrival of its new Consul General in Lagos, Rick Swart, marking the beginning of his three-year diplomatic assignment in Nigeria.

The announcement was made on Friday via the Embassy’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter), where Swart was warmly welcomed to the country.

“Join us in welcoming our new Consul General, Rick Swart, as he arrives in Lagos!” the post read. “He’ll be travelling across the 17 states in the Consulate General’s area of responsibility to meet people, experience Nigeria’s vibrant culture, and deepen the U.S.–Nigeria partnership.”

A career diplomat with a global portfolio, Swart is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the United States and Nigeria, particularly in the southern region.

The Embassy also invited Nigerians to share suggestions on places the new Consul General should visit in Lagos and across southern Nigeria, encouraging public engagement with the hashtag #CGSwart.
