New Unilorin VC resumes, promises continuation of institutional excellence

The new Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Prof Wahab Egbewole on Monday expressed his readiness to take the institution to new height and ensure institutional excellence.
Prof Egbewole stated this during his formal inauguration and assumption of office as the 11th VC of at the university’s auditorium.
According to him, his administration will study the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) that characterize the university and address them for collective interest.
Egbewole said he would make good use of the human capital interest of the great institution.
He solicited the support and cooperation of the institution’s management team to place the university where it rightly belongs.
He said the principle of inclusive governance of no door policy will be deployed to manage challenges that may arise naturally.
Prof Egbewole noted that his administration will ensure judicious use of resources as well as the maintenance of law and order.
Earlier, the former Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin and Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof Musbau Akanji in his presentation entitled; Challenges facing Appointment of Vice-Chancellor in Contemporary Nigeria University Setting”, said no university in the world can become a global centre of academic and research excellence through nativist thinking in its academic appointment policy.
“Why is localization a threat to future of university? A university is supposed to be a place of higher learning. It is not a religious organization requiring commitment to a shared dogma. It thrives on reason, not rage. It is not an extension of the school or home. It is not a racial or ethnic or sectarian possession.
“It is a public institution, open to all. It values independence of thought. University have open border that welcome ideas independence from anywhere and by anyone in the world,” he said.
Professor Akanji listed the qualities a vice-chancellor of a 21st century should possess as: vision or mission, accountability and transparency, excellence, teamwork and integrity.
