Newcastle United fought back from two goals down to earn a hard-fought Premier League point at home against Bournemouth, with Jacob Ramsey scoring a late equaliser.

Bournemouth took an early lead when Alex Scott’s deflected shot looped into the box, allowing Marcus Tavernier to get ahead of Amar Dedić at the back post and poke the ball underneath Lukas Horníček.

Newcastle fans booed the officials after the goal, believing there had been a foul in an earlier phase of play following a tussle between Adrien Truffert and Anthony Elanga.

The Cherries doubled their advantage when Justin Kluivert’s powerful long-range effort struck the post, bounced off the back of Horníček and fell to Scott.

The former England Under-21 midfielder’s effort from a tight angle deflected off Malick Thiaw and beyond Horníček, with the goal eventually recorded as an own goal.

Newcastle responded moments later when Harvey Barnes cut inside from the left and curled a stunning right-footed strike into the top corner. An entertaining and fast-paced first half gave way to a more closely contested second period.

Newcastle introduced Belgium forward Matias Fernández-Pardo in the 63rd minute for his debut. The 51 million-pound signing from Lille arrived before the transfer window closed as the hosts looked for an added attacking spark.

Bournemouth appeared to have done enough to hold on for victory, but Ramsey struck with two minutes of normal time remaining. A Newcastle attack culminated in Thiaw, with his back to goal, knocking the ball down inside the box.
