Newly built KWASU’s Osi, Ilesha Baruba campuses ready for academic activities

…as Governor AbdulRazaq delivers on pledge

Academic sessions are set to commence at the Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses of Kwara State University (KWASU), following the completion of major infrastructural projects.

The development fulfills Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s pledge to complete the campuses, which were initiated under the previous administration.

Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde, announced during an inspection visit on Saturday that construction at the Osi campus in Ekiti Local Government is 98% complete and ready for students.

She added that lectures for the Department of Fine and Applied Arts under the new Faculty of Environmental Sciences will begin on Monday, November 18. Meanwhile, students from the Faculty of Agriculture are expected to resume at the Ilesha Baruba campus in January 2024.

Commitment to Quality Infrastructure

Dr. Arinde, accompanied by KWASU Osi Campus Head Prof. Binta A. Sulyman and Governor Abdulrazaq’s Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work. She noted that remaining tasks, including road networks and landscaping, are being finalized.

“Looking at the structures, we are at the practical stage of completion. Over 98% of the work is done. Engineers and consultants are working tirelessly to complete the roads and ensure the surroundings are well-finished,” she said.

Dr. Arinde commended Governor Abdulrazaq for prioritizing the projects despite initial challenges. “The community had lost hope, but this development has brought immense joy,” she added.

Facilities to Boost Academic and Economic Growth

Prof. Sulyman highlighted the array of facilities available at the Osi campus, including offices, studios, conference rooms, lecture halls, a 2,000-seat auditorium, car parks, recreational spaces, a computer-based testing center, an arts gallery, boreholes, electricity transformers, and solar-powered streetlights.

“Staff and students of Fine and Applied Arts are already on the ground and ready to begin lectures. By January, more departments will join,” Prof. Sulyman said, adding that the project would stimulate economic growth in Osi and surrounding areas.

She praised the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the project, which has endeared him to host communities. “The community is very happy to see this project come to life,” she said.
