NFF extends NPFL, NNL, NLO boards’ tenure till 2026

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has extended the tenure of the boards of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) until the end of the current NFF administration.
This decision means the boards led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (NPFL), Chief George Aluo (NNL), and Silas Ali Agara (NLO) will remain in office until 29 September 2026, coinciding with the expiration of the NFF board’s tenure under Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
The tenure extension comes after the expiration of their initial two-year mandate, which began on 1 July 2023 and ended on 30 June 2025.
In a statement, the NFF Executive Committee praised the achievements of the three league boards over the past two years, commending their efforts in improving the standards and competitiveness of domestic football.
The NFF also charged the league boards to intensify their work towards delivering better-organized, commercially viable, and more attractive leagues that stakeholders across Nigeria and Africa can be proud of.
“We expect the leagues to continue to grow, improve professionalism, and adopt innovative strategies for the betterment of the Nigerian game,” the NFF stated.
However, the federation noted that the decision regarding the board of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), currently headed by Ms. Nkechi Nneka Obi, has been deferred to a later date.
The NFF reiterated its commitment to strengthening the domestic football ecosystem and ensuring that the leagues remain critical platforms for talent development and football growth in Nigeria.
