NFF monitoring NNL players for Super Eagles duty – Eguavoen

Players featuring in Nigeria’s second-tier league, the Nigerian National League (NNL), are being monitored for potential call-ups to the Super Eagles.
This was revealed by the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguavoen, while discussing the possibility of NNL players representing the senior national team.
Cerezo, as the former Super Eagles captain is fondly called, stated that while opportunities may be limited, the players must remain patient for their chance to come.
Eguavoen explained that although the likelihood of an invitation is slim, the NFF Technical Department is closely monitoring exceptional players in the NNL and will extend invitations when deemed appropriate.
He referenced the call-up of Afeez Bankole, a Smart City player, who joined the Super Eagles B Team ahead of their clash with Ghana.
He added: “We are already looking into the NNL to invite quality players into the Super Eagles.
“For instance, Afeez Bankole of Smart City was invited to the CHAN Eagles, and he justified his invitation.
“Although I am not sure whether he made the final list, he was in camp among the last set of players.
“That’s an indication that we are monitoring exceptional players in the lower league (NNL).”
