Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has confidently assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Mexico, the USA, and Canada.

Gusau, speaking during the final match of the Sokoto State Football Association Chairman Cup at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto, also reaffirmed his dedication to grassroots football development. He emphasized its crucial role in nurturing talent and growing the sport in Nigeria.

The final match of the tournament witnessed an electrifying encounter, with Lokoja FC defeating A.A Star FC in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw.

Gusau commended the Sokoto State Football Association for successfully organizing the competition, which showcased exceptional talent and enthusiasm.

Highlighting the importance of Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Gusau described it as a shared responsibility among all football stakeholders.

“Missing back-to-back World Cups would be a significant setback for our football aspirations,” he said.

“The qualification of the Super Eagles is a task for all football stakeholders, led by the NFF. I urge everyone to support this mission wholeheartedly.”

While applauding the passion of Sokoto’s football community, Gusau expressed concern over the state of the Giginya Memorial Stadium.

He pledged to work with relevant authorities to upgrade the facility to meet international standards, making it suitable for hosting high-profile matches, including Super Eagles games.

“I am impressed with the level of talent and enthusiasm displayed by the teams and fans during this tournament,” Gusau remarked.

“However, the state of the stadium requires urgent attention. I promise to collaborate with the relevant authorities to ensure it is renovated to meet international standards.”

The NFF President extended his gratitude to the participating teams, fans, and the Sokoto community for their unwavering support in making the tournament a success.

He emphasized the role of grassroots competitions like this in identifying and nurturing future stars for Nigerian football.
