NFVCB mourns veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor, director and industry figure, Francis Duru.

The board, in a tribute issued by its management on Friday, described Duru as a trained thespian whose career was marked by discipline, artistic excellence and professional integrity.

It recalled his memorable performance as Ahanna in the 1995 classic film, Rattlesnake, noting that his contributions to Nollywood spanned generations and promoted films with strong artistic and moral values.

The NFVCB said Duru’s commitment to excellence on screen and his contributions to industry leadership, including his service to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), helped shape the growth of the Nigerian film industry.

The board also noted his recognition as a United Nations Ambassador of Peace, saying it reflected his commitment to using his creative platform to contribute to society.

“Nigeria has lost a brilliant cultural ambassador and a rare standard-bearer for quality production,” the statement said.

The NFVCB extended its condolences to Duru’s family, the leadership of the AGN and his fans, while praying for the strength to bear the loss and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
