NGF commiserates with Adamawa State over devastating floods

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Adamawa State following the recent flooding that ravaged Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of residents.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the NGF expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis triggered by the disaster and reaffirmed its solidarity with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the people of the state.
The Forum acknowledged the proactive steps taken by the Adamawa State Government in mobilising resources to mitigate the impact of the flooding and pledged continued support to complement the ongoing relief efforts.
Commending the swift intervention by the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army, the NGF noted the timely deployment of marine units—at the request of the state government—as a critical factor in supporting stranded residents and preventing further casualties.
“The NGF stands firmly with Governor Fintiri and the good people of Adamawa State during this challenging time,” the statement read. “We will continue to work collaboratively to provide the necessary assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected.”
The Forum further urged relevant federal agencies and humanitarian organisations to scale up their interventions and provide comprehensive support to accelerate recovery and rehabilitation in the affected areas.
The NGF reiterated its commitment to strengthening disaster response mechanisms across the country and enhancing intergovernmental collaboration to improve resilience against future climate-related emergencies.
The Forum also called on Nigerians to keep the people of Adamawa in their thoughts and prayers, while encouraging all stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to relief efforts.
