NGO canvasses govt support for children with special needs

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rhimamory, a non-governmdntal organisation dedicated to helping all neurodivergent and neurotypical children achieve their full potential, Mudi Nwachukwu, has called for government support for children with special needs.
She made the plea during the maiden edition of the Special Educational Needs and Therapy Empowerment conference, organised in Lagos State.
Nwachukwu said, “SENTE was born out of a five-minute conversation with a lady a few years ago at a special needs conference. We are not just giving statistics, definitions, and analysis; we are providing practical solutions. We have ensured that parents can access stands offering essential resources like schools, food, and therapy materials.
“This is largely a solo effort. Fortunately, some people believed in the vision and came on board as sponsors. We do not yet have government involvement, but we hope they will listen and engage meaningfully rather than just organising symbolic gestures.
“Parents are asking for real solutions, and we want the government to attend events like this to understand their needs better. We have written letters, made phone calls, and provided the same information shared with everyone here. We simply want Nigeria to become more inclusive and ensure no child is left behind.”
Speaking as panellists at the conference, Tobiloba Ajayi, Chief Responsibility Officer of Let CP Kids Learn, and the Founder of Cradle Lounge Special Initiative, Solape Azazi, urged parents, guardians, and teachers to move past the worrying question, “Why me? Why this?” to “What next? What can I do differently to ensure my child gets the required help they need?
