NIDCOM Chairman meets Chidinma Adetshina, urges unity amongst Africans

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called for unity amongst Africans and encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora with dual citizenship to maintain strong ties with their homeland. She urged them to always take pride in their Nigerian heritage.

Dabiri-Erewa made these remarks during a visit by Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidinma Onwe Adetshina, to the NIDCOM office in Lagos. Praising Chidinma’s resilience and determination, she highlighted the challenges the beauty queen faced during her journey, which exemplified the strength and creativity of Nigerians globally.

“Those with dual citizenship should not take it for granted. Nigeria has stood by you in trying moments, and I’m glad you are home,” Dabiri-Erewa said, referencing the difficulties Chidinma faced in her pageant journey.

Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidinma Onwe Adetshina, expressed her gratitude for the warm reception at NIDCOM, saying, “I am honored to be here, and I wear this crown with immense pride. I am committed to making Nigeria proud.”

Chidinma will represent Nigeria at the Miss World 2024 competition in Mexico later this year.

Also present at the event was Mr. Guy Murray-Bruce, organizer of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, who expressed pride in giving Chidinma the platform to contest. The event was also graced by music legend D’Banj, who praised Chidinma’s determination and treated the audience to a special performance in her honor.

Chidinma, who was born in South Africa 23 years ago, was forced to withdraw from a beauty pageant there due to issues surrounding her dual nationality. Despite this setback, her resilience has shone through, earning her admiration from both NIDCOM and her supporters.
