Niger State donates N250 million to flood victims in Borno

The Niger State Government has donated N250 million to support victims of the recent flood in Maiduguri, Borno State, which affected over two million people.

Former Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago led a delegation from Niger State to Maiduguri to sympathize with the Borno State Government and its people following the devastating flood. He described the situation as “devastating and worrisome,” calling on well-meaning Nigerians to offer their support.

During his visit, Bago encouraged Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and the residents to stay strong and keep their faith in Allah, who he said, “makes no mistakes.”

He also urged the people to support Governor Zulum’s efforts to restore normalcy in their lives and livelihood, while pledging to deploy health workers to provide medical assistance if needed.

In response, Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude for the donation, assuring that the funds would be used judiciously to aid the flood victims. He also praised Bago’s developmental achievements and acknowledged the strengthening of ties between Niger and Borno states under his leadership.

The delegation from Niger State included members of the State Executive Council, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Special Advisers, local government chairmen, and traditional rulers including the Emirs of Borgu and Kagara.

Special prayers were offered for the souls of those who lost their lives, the healing of the injured, and the restoration of lost properties and livelihoods. The prayers also called for the prevention of future disasters.

The Niger State delegation later visited the palace of the Shehu of Borno to offer their condolences and seek royal blessings.
