Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Ajuri Ngelale, led a significant virtual discussion on Tuesday with Michael Uwemedimo, the head of the $100 million Global Environment Facility (GEF) project.

This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), seeks to revitalize mangrove forests in the Niger Delta and counteract carbon emissions.

The conversation between Ngelale and Uwemedimo underscored Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to climate action and environmental preservation.

This meeting formed part of a series of critical engagements that Ngelale conducted on Tuesday, highlighting Nigeria’s determination to propel climate initiatives at an international level.

The project is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s carbon footprint and contribute to global efforts against climate change. Ngelale is intensifying preparations for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Conference of Parties (COP29).

He recently convened a meeting with members of the Economic Team Office (ETO) and the National Climate Change Council (NCCC) to review progress on preparations for cross-governmental engagements.

Ngelale also held a virtual call with Nicky Keefe, Bloomberg Group Executive, to discuss Nigeria’s participation in the B20 Business Forum in Brazil and plans to drive localization in the value chain for renewable energy technologies.
