Nigeria at 65: APC hails citizens, says economy on path of recovery

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence anniversary, describing it as the dawn of “great and infinite possibilities.”

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party praised the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and the resilience of citizens, noting that the nation has weathered challenges and continues to march toward enduring greatness.

The APC said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has laid strong foundations for economic stability and growth through reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange system.

“Although these inevitable reforms brought initial and transient discomfort to Nigerians, today, our country is better for it. All relevant economic markers now show an economy standing on strong macroeconomic foundations and delivering early yields,” the statement read.

The party cited improvements in trade, revenue, and production figures, noting that Nigeria has recorded trade surpluses for five consecutive quarters, while GDP growth in Q2 2025 rose to 4.28 percent, above the IMF forecast of 3.5 percent. It also highlighted an increase in foreign reserves to $42 billion, inflation dropping to 20.1 percent, and greater stability in the naira.

According to the APC, the government has reduced the revenue-to-debt service ratio from about 97 percent to less than 50 percent, while the tax-to-GDP ratio has risen to 13.5 percent, up from about 10 percent.

The party also pointed to increased infrastructure investment, growth in agriculture and the creative industries, and ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and corruption as signs of progress.

“We applaud Nigerians for their patience and sacrifice out of love for country. We urge them to sustain their support for our great party and the Tinubu-led administration as we continue our concerted efforts to build a Nigeria of our collective dream,” Morka said.
