Wife of Nigeria’s Vice President, Nana Shettima, has highlighted the strong cultural ties between Nigeria and Brazil, describing both nations as deeply connected by shared values, history, and traditions despite being continents apart.

She made the remarks while receiving Maria Lucia Alckmin, the Second Lady of Brazil, who is on an official visit to Nigeria alongside her husband, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.

The Brazilian delegation is in Abuja to participate in the Second Session of the Nigeria–Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries.

Speaking during their meeting, Nana Shettima emphasized that the ties between Nigeria and Brazil go beyond formal diplomacy, pointing to the historical connections rooted in shared ancestry, cultural heritage, and long-standing people-to-people relationships.

Earlier in the day, Vice President Alckmin and his wife were received at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by top government officials and diplomats.

The engagements between the two countries’ leaders are scheduled to continue over the coming days with a series of bilateral meetings, cultural exchanges, and partnership discussions.
