Nigeria, Brazil strengthen health partnership with new roadmap

By Kunle Sanni –
Nigeria and Brazil are set to strengthen cooperation in the health sector with a proposed Five-Year Joint Action Plan to implement a bilateral agreement signed in July.
The plan was presented during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil, where high-level meetings focused on expanding partnerships in key sectors. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, was part of the president’s delegation for the talks.
Describing the visit as the “restart of the Nigeria-Brazil relationship,” Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva welcomed closer collaboration between the two nations.
Discussions also included a proposal for a government-to-government procurement deal designed to strengthen healthcare delivery systems in both countries.
The renewed engagement underscores a broader commitment to South-South cooperation and builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Brazil’s Ministry of Health.
