Nigeria chairs UN-HABITAT talks on global urban development

Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, will chair the second 2024 session of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Executive Board Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, from December 4 to 6.
The session will address critical global challenges in urban development, focusing on housing, urban regeneration, climate resilience, and sustainable growth aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Key discussions will include the review and potential approval of UN-HABITAT’s 2025 draft work programme and budget, alongside progress reports and strategic planning for 2026–2029.
As Chair, Nigeria’s leadership highlights its commitment to advancing global sustainable urbanization. This role enhances Nigeria’s visibility in the international urban development space, positioning the country as a key player in shaping policies for sustainable cities.
Arc. Dangiwa, also Chair of the African Ministers of Housing Caucus, will advocate for international support to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, promote affordable housing solutions, and champion climate adaptation efforts.
The meeting is expected to foster partnerships with global stakeholders, attract investments, and showcase Nigeria’s achievements in housing and urban development.
