Nigeria met 2025 revenue target in August, driven by non-oil growth — Tinubu

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday announced that Nigeria achieved its 2025 revenue target ahead of schedule, reaching the milestone in August, largely through gains in the non-oil sector.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa during a meeting with founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, Tinubu said recent economic reforms have stabilised the economy and boosted revenue generation.
“The economy is now stabilised. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for foreign exchange anymore. The economy is now predictable. You do not need to know the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, to obtain foreign exchange or import goods,” the President said.
Tinubu emphasised that his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on building infrastructure, expanding food production, improving healthcare, and ensuring security. He revealed plans to establish agricultural mechanisation centres across all regions to boost cultivation, harvests, and food sovereignty.
“What we need now is to build the ships and vessels for the export of our goods and create more jobs for our people,” Tinubu added, noting that training programmes would accompany the mechanisation initiative.
The President also assured that the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari would be preserved, announcing plans for a “Buhari House” as part of efforts to honour his predecessor. He further pledged that more members of the former CPC would be given opportunities to participate in government.
Al-Makura, speaking for the delegation, reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to Tinubu and the APC government, praising the President for his role in ensuring a befitting state burial for Buhari.
“You not only buried President Buhari but also honoured him and ensured a befitting state burial with full military honours. Above all, your presence throughout the ceremony was comforting and reassuring,” Al-Makura said, pledging the group’s commitment to Tinubu’s success and “ultimate victory in the 2027 elections.”
