Nigeria opens doors to energy investors, says NNPC chief at Gastech 2025

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has called on international investors to explore Nigeria’s abundant energy sector opportunities.

Ojulari made the appeal during the Energy Talk segment of the 2025 Gastech Exhibition & Conference in Milan, Italy, in an interview with NBC’s Hala Gorani. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for improving Nigeria’s investment climate and positioning the country as Africa’s premier destination for energy-related investments.

The NNPC boss assured stakeholders that the company’s new management team is focused on delivering value to shareholders and achieving its strategic goals.

Highlighting investment opportunities, Ojulari pointed to growing interest in gas-based industries, such as petrochemicals and methanol plants. He stressed the need for further infrastructure investments to support the Federal Government’s push to expand Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for the transportation sector.

Ojulari also revealed that Nigeria’s crude oil sector remains largely untapped, with production at 1.7 million barrels per day and over 200 undeveloped oil fields available for investment, offering potential to boost output.

On measures to attract investors, he said NNPC Ltd. is investing in carbon capture projects, energy efficiency technologies, and gas flare reduction. He noted that key projects, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and Nigeria LNG Train 7 Project, are progressing steadily.

The GCEO emphasised that Nigeria’s energy transition strategy prioritises eradicating energy poverty, using gas for industrialisation and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a clean cooking solution for millions of households across Africa.

Gastech 2025, one of the world’s leading annual gas conferences, has attracted over 50,000 professionals and more than 1,000 exhibitors from 150 countries, providing a platform for discussions on global energy developments and investments.
