Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Monday joined dignitaries and citizens of Cameroon to celebrate the country’s 53rd National Day, also known as Unity Day, in Yaoundé, the capital.

General Musa, who represented Nigeria at the event, expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Cameroon and other neighbouring countries.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling common security threats and fostering socio-economic development across the region.

This year’s celebration, themed “Army and Nation United for a Cameroon Turned Towards Peace and Prosperity,” highlighted the nation’s resilience, patriotism, and commitment to peace and progress.

The event drew the attendance of President Paul Biya, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and a wide cross-section of Cameroonian citizens and well-wishers.

The festivities featured military exhibitions, displays of defence equipment, solidarity marches, and ceremonial parades – all underscoring Cameroon’s unity and national pride.

A key moment of the day was the performance by the Nigerian Armed Forces contingent, the only foreign delegation to participate. Their precision drills, vibrant musical displays, and regimental coordination earned widespread acclaim from the audience.
