Nigeria showcases green growth agenda at COP 29 in Baku

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to green growth and sustainable development through President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and the administration’s 8-point economic strategy.
Speaking at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, outlined the country’s climate goals and strategic initiatives.
In a statement from the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, the minister emphasized accountability, green financing, and collaboration as key priorities for driving national development and addressing climate challenges.
Key Initiatives Announced by Nigeria
Climate Accountability and Transparency Portal (CAT-P):
Launched under President Tinubu’s directive, the portal aims to enhance transparency in climate-related activities and expenditures, minimizing inefficiencies and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
Green Financing and Partnerships:
Nigeria is prioritizing securing international funding for projects in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience, essential for driving economic growth while addressing climate change impacts.
Optimized Resource Use:
To maximize efficiency, Nigeria streamlined its COP 29 delegation, focusing on participants directly involved in advancing the nation’s climate and economic objectives.
Anticipated Outcomes
Nigeria aims to secure commitments for green energy projects and climate adaptation strategies to address persistent power shortages and environmental challenges.
