Nigeria still attractive to investors despite security challenges — Braimah

Nigeria is attracting growing investor interest despite ongoing security challenges, Ehi Braimah, publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NaijaTimes, has said.

Braimah stated this during a recent interview on Sunrise Daily, where he reviewed the outcomes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, noting that the trip focused on economic partnerships and investment mobilisation.

He identified a high-level investment forum organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as a major highlight of the visit.

According to him, the forum signalled Nigeria’s shift from economic stabilisation to capital mobilisation, with reforms presented by the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, aimed at boosting investor confidence.

Braimah said investor sentiment remained positive, noting that participants showed strong interest in investing, particularly in response to reforms such as exchange rate unification and fuel subsidy removal.

“The main objective was to showcase how Nigeria is becoming an attractive investment destination. The CBN Governor is putting that on the spotlight, and that sends a strong signal that the country is ready to attract more foreign capital,” he said.

He added that 32 Nigerian banks have met new capital requirements, with about 28 per cent of inflows coming from foreign investors, describing this as a strong indicator of confidence in the economy.

While acknowledging security concerns and rising cost of living, he maintained that these challenges have not deterred investors, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s economic outlook and urging citizens to project a positive image of the country.
