Nigeria to host inaugural Foods & Culture Festival in December

The Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has announced that the maiden edition of the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival will hold from 16 to 17 December, 2025, at the Cricket Pitch of the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Abuja. She said the festival, organised in partnership with Irabor Creative Minds, is designed to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and creative diversity.
Musawa described the event as a demonstration of the nation’s commitment to leveraging art, culture, and tourism for economic growth, job creation, and national cohesion.
“Detty December is a popular cultural event originating from Lagos, and the federal government will provide all necessary support to ensure a safe, beautiful, and culturally enriching experience for the international community and lovers of culture and creativity,” she said.
She noted that Lagos was selected as host city because of its standing as a centre of cultural and creative excellence. “This will be a bigger Detty December, and we envision a future where the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival becomes a premier cultural event, attracting visitors from around the world to experience the richness of Nigerian culture,” she added.
The Minister expressed appreciation to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the culture and creative sector, and thanked partners and sponsors, urging Nigerians to participate fully in the festival.
Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Irabor Creative Minds, Jude Irabor Uwagbai, assured the public of adequate security, saying the organisation is working closely with Lagos State’s Lion Building Police to guarantee a safe and enjoyable festival.
“We are inviting the world to Lagos, Nigeria, to come and experience our culture,” he said.
