Nigeria U-20 women defeat Senegal to secure final qualifier spot

Nigeria’s Women U-20 national team, the Falconets, have secured passage to the final qualifying round of the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup.

The Nigerian side achieved the feat on Saturday evening after defeating their Senegalese counterparts 2-1 in the return leg of their qualifier played in Dakar.

The Falconets entered the second leg with a slim 1-0 advantage secured in the first leg last weekend in Abeokuta.

Kindness Chinaza Ifeanyi put Nigeria on the path to victory with the opening goal in the 19th minute, a lead they took into the break.

Precious Oscar doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 68th minute to compound the hosts’ woes.

The hosts pulled one back later, but it proved to be a mere consolation as the Moses Aduku-tutored side held on for a 2-1 win, sealing qualification on a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

The Falconets will now face the winner between Guinea-Bissau and Malawi in the final qualifying round.
