Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has projected a turnaround in the nation’s economy, declaring that by 2026, Nigeria would attain a level of prosperity that would compel other countries to come and borrow money from the country.
Tinubu made the remark in Ile-Ife after being installed as the Yeye Asiwaju Ile Oodua during the grand finale of the Ooni of Ife’s 10th coronation anniversary, expressing gratitude for the honour.
She said, “I want to thank the people of Ile-Ife. I also thank the Ooni of Ife for bestowing such honour. Nigeria’s joy has come. Those wondering how we want to do it, we will show them how things are done. By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity; other countries will come and borrow money from us. It is important to say it here at the source of the Yoruba cradle today that during this present administration led by President Bola Tinubu, they will wonder how he was able to achieve such a milestone.”

In his remarks, former President Olusegun Obasanjo congratulated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for transforming the throne and elevating Yoruba culture. He also congratulated the first lady for being part of the epoch-making event and for being installed as the Yeye Asiwaju of Oodua land.
Also, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in his goodwill message, said his government had been working closely with the Ooni to upgrade cultural assets in Ile-Ife. He assured that his administration would continue to support the Ooni and other traditional rulers in strengthening Yoruba culture.
Earlier in his remarks, the Ooni, who described the First Lady as a blessing to Nigeria, added that bestowing the title of Yeye Asiwaju on her would spur her to do more for Nigerian women and the girl-child.
The event attracted a large gathering of dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun; Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa; Osun Assembly Speaker Prince Adewale Egbedun; former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun; Mrs Florence Ajimobi; the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan; wives of National Assembly members, ministers, governors and service chiefs; Erelu Abiola Dosumu; Osun State commissioners; and NIDCOM Chair, Abike Dabiri.
