Nigerian Air Force deals blow to bandits in Zamfara

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in a joint operation with ground forces, has dealt a significant blow to banditry in Zamfara State, delivering a decisive and well-coordinated assault under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The offensive, conducted on January 10, 2025, targeted bandits at Fakai Hills, neutralizing scores of criminals and leaving many others, including top commanders, gravely injured.
According to intelligence reports, the operation disrupted the network of bandits loyal to notorious leader Kachallah Bello Turji, with heavy casualties reported among his followers. While Turji’s whereabouts remain unknown, the assault has placed immense pressure on his crumbling network.
The operation was executed with precision, guided by real-time intelligence from an airborne surveillance platform. Identified targets were engaged with rockets and cannons, delivering devastating results.
Aircrew maintained seamless coordination with ground troops, ensuring the success of the assault. As the bandits attempted to flee eastward, further airstrikes were deployed, neutralizing additional targets and dismantling the group’s operations.
In addition to the neutralization of bandits, the operation brought significant relief to affected communities in Zamfara State.
Locals celebrated the success of the mission, expressing gratitude for the restored sense of security. Notably, several kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation, offering renewed hope to families who had been affected by banditry.
Air Vice Marshal Olusola F. Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating criminality across Nigeria.
“This operation underscores the unwavering resolve of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to restore peace and security to all regions.
“Together, we will defeat all enemies threatening the security and wellbeing of our people, paving the way for peace and prosperity in our great nation,” he said.
Olusola asserted that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain steadfast in their mission to safeguard lives and property, ensuring that banditry and other forms of criminality are completely eradicated.
