Nigerian Army launches Air-to-Ground Integration training for troops in North East

The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has commenced a specialised orientation training on Air-to-Ground Integration (AGI) for troops operating in the North East, aimed at strengthening coordination between ground and air forces in counterterrorism operations.
The programme, which began on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, was inaugurated by the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar. He stressed the importance of AGI in improving military effectiveness and reducing civilian casualties.
“Our collective efforts in combating terrorism require a well-trained and professional force that can work in synergy with other agencies and entities,” Abubakar said.
He noted that the training would enhance communication and coordination between surface forces and air assets, while equipping participants with vital knowledge to prevent fratricide and collateral damage.
The commander reminded participants, drawn from formations across the theatre, to embrace humility, responsibility, and open-mindedness, describing the exercise as the first of its kind under Operation HADIN KAI. He also commended the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) Training Team for their expertise, which he said would significantly enrich the theatre’s capacity-building drive.
Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his leadership and support in facilitating the programme. He urged troops to apply the knowledge gained to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces.
Earlier, the Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, welcomed participants and encouraged them to maximize the opportunity provided. He also applauded the Theatre Commander for creating the enabling environment for such training.
In his remarks, the AWDC representative, Wing Commander Asa Abatura, assured participants of the facilitators’ commitment to delivering impactful sessions. He thanked both the Theatre Commander and the Air Component Commander of OPHK, Air Commodore Umar Idris, for their roles in making the training possible, including the provision of aircraft for the exercise.
