Nigeria’s $52m nutrition fund gets new law backing – Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima says the Federal Government will accelerate the development of a National Food and Nutrition Bill to protect nutrition funding, strengthen accountability and sustain interventions beyond successive administrations.

Shettima disclosed this on Wednesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Forum.

He said Nigeria’s $26 million commitment to the Child Nutrition Fund had attracted a $26 million matching contribution, unlocking $52 million for nutrition interventions.

The Vice-President said the proposed legislation would provide stronger backing for the government’s Nutrition 774 Initiative while strengthening cooperation among the federal, state and local governments in tackling malnutrition.
