Nigeria’s AFCON 2027 hope not over despite Guinea Bissau defeat – Chelle

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has insisted Nigeria’s bid to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is still alive despite a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau.
The loss leaves Nigeria on three points, three behind Guinea-Bissau, with only one team expected to qualify from Group L.
“This is not the end. We have lots of games still to play,” Chelle said after the defeat.
“We have two very important games against Tanzania in November, and we have to win both. Guinea-Bissau will also come to Uyo, and we have to put them in the same conditions we found ourselves here.”
Chelle admitted Nigeria were second best on the day, saying the hosts were “more aggressive” and “more motivated.”
“I am very confident about my team, but today was not a good day for us,” he said.
The coach also blamed the difficult pitch and hot weather for contributing to the heavy defeat.
