NITDA unveils framework to measure digital economy impact

…seeks accurate metrics to drive Nigeria’s digital growth
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has convened key stakeholders to validate a new framework aimed at measuring, analysing and maximising the impact of digital technologies on Nigeria’s economy.
The initiative was launched at the Stakeholder Engagement and Validation Workshop on the Indicators and Measurement Framework for the National Research Study on the Impact of Digital Technologies on Nigeria’s Economy: Key Growth Indicators, Gaps and Future Outlook, held at the e-Government Training Centre of the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Abuja.

The workshop brought together representatives of government agencies, regulatory bodies, academia, the private sector, development partners and the research community to finalise the framework for a nationwide assessment of Nigeria’s digital economy.

Speaking at the event, NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, represented by the Director of the Special Duties Unit, Mr. Olawumi Oladejo, said building a globally competitive digital economy requires more than technology deployment.
He stressed that reliable data, credible evidence and strong institutional collaboration are critical to achieving sustainable digital transformation.

Inuwa noted that Nigeria has made significant progress in digital payments, broadband expansion, digital public services, innovation and entrepreneurship.
However, he said the absence of a harmonised national measurement system makes it difficult to accurately evaluate the impact of these investments, identify gaps and prioritise future interventions.
According to him, the national research study will provide a credible evidence base for assessing how digital technologies contribute to economic growth, job creation, innovation, financial inclusion, public service delivery and national competitiveness.
