NLC protest disrupts vehicular movement in Akure

Vehicular movement in Akure, the Ondo State capital was on Tuesday disrupted by the protest embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over its prolonged strike.
The protest march took off from the popular Adegbemile Cultural Center to the Governor’s office with ASUU members across the state
NLC Chairman in the state, Sunday Oluwole Adeleye said that the essence of the protest was to let the Federal Government know that the educational system in the country is in comatose state and that the strike by ASUU is taking too long.
Also speaking, Chairman of ASUU, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof Yinka Awopetu called on the Federal Government to wake up to its responsibilities in making the systems work
Dr Adetokunbo Adepoju, who is the chairman of ASUU, Adeyemi College of Education, said the protest was to let government know that the union is not happy with the state of the education sector.
Union leaders warned that the country may be shut down down in a couple of days if nothing is done to address the prolonged strike.
The state Head of Service, Mr. John Adeyemi, who spoke on behalf of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, said the governor is aware of the happenings and will table their demand before the Nigeria Governors’ Forum
