Kwara State Government has reassured workers of its commitment to reducing the burden of the hardship currently being experienced due to the high cost of living and insecurity.

The Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Training, Office of the Head of Service, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim gave the assurance when the Chairman of the Kwara state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Saheed Muritala, led other labour union members and affiliates to join the ongoing nationwide protest to express their frustration at the prevailing economic situation in the country.

Mr Ibrahim urged the protesters to be patient and show understanding as the inflation and high cost of things is a global phenomenon.

He said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is already putting measures in place to ameliorate the effects of the present harsh living conditions on the people, adding that the governor is a listening governor ready to respond to the yearnings of the people.

Speaking, Comrade Muritala expressed optimism that the meetings and dialogue that would follow after the protest would provide solutions to some of the problems confronting the country.

”The purpose of the protest is to let the government know that they need to restrategize on some of their policies, especially on economy and security.

”This is because with insecurity, no matter how rich you are, your life isn’t safe.

“And for the economy, we need to strengthen the naira, why are we dollarizing our economy when our currency is the Naira?

”After the protest, I believe the government will give room for negotiations involving all stakeholders through which solutions to some of the problems will be provided.

”And when that is done, there is no need for any action again from us, all that we are yearning for is for the common man to live a good life,” he said.

Also speaking, Comrade Victoria Agboola, who spoke on behalf of the women said all the citizens demand is to live a good life.

She said women as managers of the home have nothing to manage again as things have already fallen apart with the per-second price increase of goods and services.
