NNPC Foundation, AFFF to train 1,000 young creatives in Lagos summit

The Africa Film Finance Forum (AFFF) has announced a partnership with the NNPC Foundation to empower 1,000 emerging Nigerian and African creative talents through the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP).

The initiative will debut at the AFFF 2025 conference scheduled for September 16 to 18 in Lagos. According to the organisers, the program will offer intensive training modules, mentorship opportunities, and access to the film investment market.

“The NNPC Foundation will underwrite the participation of 1,000 nascent creatives in the three-day Film Finance Summit and Market,” a statement from AFFF said. “Beneficiaries will gain rigorous training, structured mentorship, and unparalleled networking opportunities.”

Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, said the initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals on education and youth empowerment. She noted that by equipping young people with skills and opportunities, the program aims to secure a resilient and innovative future for Africa’s creative industry.

Mary Ephraim-Egbas, founder of AFFF, described the partnership as an investment in Africa’s cultural capital and storytelling potential. She said the film industry remains one of the most accessible entry points into the formal economy for African youth, particularly those who are unskilled or under-skilled.

“This collaboration is a significant boost for the future of African storytelling. We are proud to work with the NNPC Foundation to help young creatives turn talent into sustainable livelihoods,” Ephraim-Egbas added.

The Youth Empowerment Program will run alongside the AFFF 2025 conference, bringing together industry leaders, investors, and young talents to chart a sustainable path for Africa’s expanding creative economy.
