No injuries recorded in aircraft gear collapse incident at Kano airport – FAAN

A Max Air Boeing 737, registered as 5N-MBD, suffered a nose wheel landing gear collapse and a rear tire burst while landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on January 28, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 10:50 LT on Runway 06/24.

Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed the details in an official statement, assuring the public that safety measures were effectively implemented.

The aircraft was carrying 53 passengers and six crew members at the time of the incident. Fortunately, all on board escaped unharmed.

Emergency response teams acted swiftly, following established protocols to manage the situation. The aircraft was later towed to Bay 5, where further investigations are underway.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an inquiry to determine the root cause of the landing gear failure.

Following the incident, the affected runway underwent cleaning and was reopened at 08:00 hours. Normal flight operations at MAKIA have since resumed.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and more updates are expected as investigations progress.
