VIDEO: ‘No more rift’ — Fubara says relationship with principal restored

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed that he remains at peace with his principal, stressing that both are working together in the interest of the state.
Speaking with State House reporters on Monday after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the governor explained that his visit was to formally brief the President on the lifting of his suspension and his resumption of duties on September 19.
“It’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back and have resumed my responsibilities as Governor of Rivers State. It was simply a father-son discussion—thanking him and seeking his guidance where necessary so we don’t run into any crisis,” Fubara said.
On whether the peace within Rivers State’s leadership is genuine or fragile, the governor dismissed speculations, insisting that the reconciliation is real.
“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he declared.

Governor Fubara added that President Tinubu offered him counsel on leadership and governance, assuring the people of Rivers State that his administration remains focused on stability and service delivery. His visit comes days after President Tinubu lifted the state of emergency in Rivers State, which had been in place since March 18, 2025.
The emergency rule, announced in a live broadcast, was declared following a protracted political crisis that crippled governance and widened rifts between the executive and the legislature.
At the time, Tinubu suspended the functions of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months, citing the need to restore order and protect critical assets amid escalating tensions between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
