No security aides withdrawn from Udom Emmanuel, says Akwa Ibom govt

The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports claiming that security personnel attached to former Governor Udom Emmanuel or any other past governor in the state have been withdrawn.

The Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, made the clarification while addressing correspondents on Saturday, describing the reports as “a baseless fabrication intended to mislead the public.”

Umanah explained that the deployment, reassignment, or withdrawal of police officers falls solely under the purview of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the State Commissioner of Police, not the state governor.

“I can tell you on good authority that the governor did not issue any directive to withdraw security operatives from the immediate past governor,” he said.

He added that all former governors of Akwa Ibom State are entitled to and continue to enjoy their approved security details as provided by law.

“To the best of our knowledge, there has been no complaint or report from any former governor or their media aides about the withdrawal of security personnel. The rumour exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” Umanah stated.

He urged members of the public to disregard the unfounded claims, assuring that Governor Umo Eno remains committed to sustaining peace, unity, and good governance in the state.

“Governor Eno will continue to ensure that all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, enjoy the full protection and benefits of the law,” the Commissioner affirmed.
