No truth in rumours of Akume’s removal as SGF – Presidency

The Presidency has debunked rumours circulating about the removal of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), affirming that there has been no change in his status.
In an official statement on Saturday night, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, described the reports as false and deliberately misleading, urging the public to disregard them.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement read. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.”
The presidency attributed the rumours to “agents of mischief” intent on spreading disinformation and creating unnecessary confusion.
Akume, a former governor and senator, was appointed SGF by President Tinubu in June 2023.
