NOA commends Police over arrest of Yelewata massacre suspects

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has applauded the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for the swift arrest of the suspected mastermind behind the recent massacre in Yelewata, Benue State, which left several people dead and properties destroyed.

Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the arrest as a demonstration of the unwavering commitment of security agencies to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians. He noted that the quick response has brought a measure of relief to the affected communities and the nation.

Issa-Onilu commended the tireless efforts of the security forces in maintaining law and order, stressing that the arrest would serve as a strong deterrent to others contemplating similar crimes.

He emphasized that peace and security are key pillars of the Nigerian Promise under the National Values Charter, adding that the capture of the suspect aligns with the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety of its citizens.

The NOA boss also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for his swift intervention, recalling that the president, during his recent visit to Benue State, had directed security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

Issa-Onilu further praised the synergy and cooperation among the various security agencies, noting that their collaboration was crucial to the success of the operation. He urged that such inter-agency cooperation be sustained in addressing the country’s security challenges.

He called on Nigerians to continue supporting the efforts of the security forces by providing credible and timely information that could aid in crime prevention and resolution.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, the NOA Director General stressed the need for collective action in promoting national unity, peace, and peaceful coexistence across the country.
