NOA issues public advisory on extreme heat during dry season

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a public advisory on the extreme heat during the dry season.

In a video jointly produced with African Independent Television (AIT), the NOA advised that people should drink plenty of water regularly and limit alcohol and caffeinated drinks intake.

The public advisory includes; avoiding outdoor activities between 1pm to 4pm, wearing light-coloured, loose-fit clothing, and using hats, umbrellas or sunglasses when outside.

” Ensure good ventilation in your home and workplace, use fans, cool showers, air conditioning if available, avoid bush burning, properly dispose of cigarette butts and other flammable materials.

“Never leave children or pets inside parked vechicles, ensure children, the elderly and invalids stay cool and hydrated.

“Eat healthy and bal ced meals to avoid deficiencies that may weaken your body from fighting off heat related illnesses”, the public advisory read.

It further said symptoms like dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, confusion or fainting could indicate heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

The public advisory added ” If you notice thses symptoms in yourself or loves ones, seek medical attention immediately”.
