NOA, OGP partner to enhance transparency, citizen engagement in governance

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Nigeria have taken steps to strengthen collaboration aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and public participation in governance.

At an official meeting held at the NOA headquarters in Abuja, the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, received the National Coordinator of OGP in Nigeria, Dr. Gloria K. Ahmed, and her management team. The engagement marked a renewed commitment to fostering open governance and improving awareness of OGP initiatives among Nigerians.

Issa-Onilu highlighted the NOA’s widespread structure across the country—spanning 774 local government areas, 26 state offices, and six newly created zonal offices—as a significant asset in driving the objectives of the OGP.

Dr. Ahmed, in her remarks, stressed the importance of synergy between both institutions, noting that the completion of Nigeria’s third National Action Plan (NAP 3) in January 2025 has paved the way for the development of NAP 4, with public engagement as a central pillar.

She urged NOA to use its grassroots network to sensitise citizens on the essence of the OGP initiative, which she noted remains unfamiliar to many.

In response, the NOA DG pledged full support for the initiative and unveiled CLHEEAN, an AI-powered civic engagement and monitoring tool developed by the agency to provide real-time updates and data-driven feedback.

He added that NOA’s reach—including 818 field offices, access to 199 radio stations, over 32 television stations, and social media influencers—positions it as a key driver of the OGP’s success in Nigeria.
