Nollywood actor Yemi Solade laments N18,912 GTBank service charge deduction
By Damilola Akinwale –
Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has accused Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) of overcharging him following the deduction of N18,912 from his account as a monthly service charge.
The actor lamented the situation in an Instagram post on Thursday, captioned, “What an INDEPENDENCE DAY robbery!” He shared what appeared to be a receipt of the transaction, showing a deduction of N18,912 for the period from September to September, dated September 30, 2026.
Expressing his shock over the charge, he described the deduction as “theft and oppression”, while questioning whether other customers had experienced the same thing and urging them to speak up.
In his words, “GTB, today, on Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day, you deducted over N18,000 from my account in the name and disguise of a service charge, which I don’t understand. N18,000, whole thousand! What did I buy from you? I’ve been with you since 1995. Almost N20,000, why? If you are affected by this theft and oppression, let’s call GTB out”.
Several users, including celebrities, also took to the comment section to express their frustrations over the same issue. Actress Fathia Balogun said, “It’s all banks. It’s like they are gathering success through our money”.
Actor Mustapha Sholagbade commented, “I’m tired of them too. I am closing my GTB account soon, both personal and business. Everything, I don’t wanna have anything to do with them again. The way they remove money in someone’s account is insane”.
An Instagram user, Seyi_fasuyi, said, “It’s true. I’m a victim of their unrealistic and persistent charges too. What I do for months is to move funds away from that account to another once an alert enters. As long as there’s money there, they won’t stop until it’s drained. The authorities, CBN, should call them to order. It is too much”.
GTBank had not responded to the actor’s accusation as of the time of filing this report.
