Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura writes Tinubu over insecurity

By Folashade Olorunfemi –

Veteran Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwura, has written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, copying First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, over the growing insecurity in the country.

The actress shared the letter on her Instagram page on Wednesday, commending the president’s commitment to democracy and the recent approval of state police reforms while expressing concern about the pace of implementation.

According to her, although the creation of state police is a welcome development, it could take between one and two years before the system becomes fully operational, leaving many communities vulnerable to kidnappers.

“Sir, we know the process to actual full-scale operations will take one to two years, especially in extending its operations into villages in the rural states, where the activities of kidnappers are overwhelming and require immediate urgent solutions,” she wrote.

Clarion also argued that insecurity and unemployment remain major challenges confronting the country, saying efforts to tackle poverty would yield little without addressing joblessness and protecting vulnerable communities.

She urged the Federal Government to channel part of the National Security Emergency Intervention Fund towards supporting community vigilante groups to strengthen local security before state police becomes fully operational.

Describing kidnappers as cowards, the actress condemned the abduction of children and other innocent Nigerians, stressing that communities urgently need effective protection.

She appealed to President Tinubu to adopt the proposal as an interim security measure, saying it would provide immediate relief for affected communities while the state police structure is being established.
