Nollywood actresses can’t afford G-Wagons from acting alone, says Yemi Solade

Nollywood veteran Yemi Solade has claimed that no actress in the Nigerian film industry can afford luxury vehicles like G-Wagons solely from their acting income.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, Solade expressed skepticism over how some actresses acquire expensive cars, pointing out that the current earnings from acting do not support such purchases.

He emphasized that Nollywood serves a variety of people with different goals and described some actresses as “tenants” in the industry.

While acknowledging that there are professional actresses who rely on their legitimate earnings, he stressed that many cannot explain the source of their wealth.

“Nobody makes a lot of money that will give you all of those luxurious cars you have mentioned. I do not know how they make so much money to buy these cars. I know what I earn. In the industry, no actress will say that the G Wagon that she has was bought from the proceeds she got from acting,” he said.

With over 30 years in the industry, Yemi Solade is known for his candid views and extensive experience in both Yoruba and English-language films, making him a respected voice on Nollywood’s realities.
