Movie maestro Kunle Afolayan, the producer and director of Anikulapo, has continued to thrill fans with the release of the official trailer for the series’ second season, titled The Ghoul Awakens.

Afolayan, who shared the trailer a few hours ago on his Facebook page, accompanied the post with the caption: “Once power is awakened, it demands a price. From Oyo to foreign lands, love is tested, loyalties are shaken. This season, survival is the real crown, and everything you think you know will be questioned.”

The actor also revealed that the movie will be released on January 30, 2026, exclusively on Netflix. The trailer follows a teaser released on his Facebook page on January 4, 2026, to the delight of fans.

Kunle Afolayan, who had earlier released two sequences compiling season one, is known for his creativity and captivating storytelling. He added that the movie was filmed at Kunle Afolayan Productions (KAP) Film Village and Resort in Nigeria and Ghana.

The initial release of Anikulapo tells the story of Saro, a traveling weaver in the Oyo Kingdom, who becomes entangled in an illicit affair with Queen Arolake, leading to a death sentence. However, he overcomes the shadow of death through the power of the mystical Akala bird (the hornbill). The story explores themes of love, betrayal, power, and consequences within Yoruba folklore.

The series progressed to season one’s second segment, titled Rise of the Spectre, which follows the travails of Arolake and Saro after their transgressions. With the introduction of new characters, the plot twists as Saro is able to relive his life and correct past mistakes. The story continues to explore themes of power, lust, and forgiveness.

Anikulapo features a star-studded cast, including Sola Sobowale, Ifayemi Elebuibon, Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi, Prince Jide Kosoko, Taiwo Hassan, Moni Afolayan, Aisha Lawal, and many others.

Kunle Afolayan is a veteran actor renowned for elevating Nollywood’s standards with cinematic quality, diverse storytelling, and major hits such as Araromire (The Figurine), Phone Swap, and Anikulapo. He is the son of legendary actor Ade Love and has trained aspiring filmmakers while establishing his businesses, including Golden Effects Pictures, KAP Movie Village, and recently venturing into fashion and hospitality—all while cementing his legacy in African cinema.
