The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has honoured Nollywood filmmaker Toyin Abraham with the Box Office Champion Award on Thursday.

Toyin, whose award was based on her box office achievements, grossed more than N1 billion from her directorial debut, Oversabi Aunty, setting a record as the first to achieve this feat.

The Executive Director of NFVCB, Shuaib Husseini, described the achievement as iconic for Nollywood, noting that it is not only a personal success but also a motivation for others to dream bigger.

“This accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but a testament to the industry’s growing strength. You have entertained millions and encouraged others to dream bigger,” he noted.

In a goodwill message, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Sanusi Yakubu, represented by Don Pedro, lauded the actress’s impact on the industry, describing the occasion as a “defining moment.”

In her remarks, Toyin appreciated her husband for his support and expressed her gratitude to NFVCB for the award. She also seized the opportunity to thank her team.

Toyin is known for her versatile roles in the Nigerian film industry, including comic roles in productions such as The Tout and The Ghost. She has also produced award-winning movies like Alakada Bad and Boujee, which ranked among the top-grossing films in 2024.

Other productions Toyin has embarked on include Ijakumo and Alakada, among others.
