North East governors urge Tinubu to complete road projects, resume oil exploration

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday led his colleagues from the North East to a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting focused on key developmental concerns, including the urgent completion of 17 strategic road projects across the region and the resumption of oil exploration in frontier wells, particularly the Kolmani and Lake Chad basins.
Governors in attendance included Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba.

Zulum, who chairs the North East Governors Forum, appealed to the President to ensure completion of critical roads linking the six states. The priority projects listed include Kano–Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri Railway, Bama–Mubi–Yola Road, Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road, Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road, Damaturu–Geidam Road, and Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road, among others.
He commended Tinubu for sustaining the fight against insurgency and restoring relative peace in the region, while pledging the governors’ support for federal initiatives on security, technology, and manpower development.

“We are fully aligning with Mr. President’s initiative of training manpower and providing technology to reverse insecurity in our forests, thereby reducing insurgency and promoting agriculture in line with the renewed hope agenda on food security,” Zulum said.
He further assured the President of the forum’s commitment to working with his administration to deliver lasting legacies for the country.
In response, President Tinubu acknowledged the concerns raised and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the developmental needs of the North East.
