North to declare 2027 political stand in six months, says Baba-Ahmed

Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned that northern Nigeria may soon take a definitive position on the 2027 presidential election if the region’s grievances continue to be ignored.

In a video circulating online, Baba-Ahmed urged northerners to remain united and vigilant against internal betrayal, warning that political “traitors” could destabilize the region.

“The north will stand to defend herself, I swear to God,” he declared, emphasizing the need for solidarity across ethnic and religious lines, including Muslims, Christians, Fulani, Baju, and Mangu communities.

Reflecting on the Boko Haram attacks during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaigns, Baba-Ahmed recalled how both churches and mosques were targeted to sow division, stressing that politicians must no longer exploit regional loyalty for personal gain.

He noted that after Buhari’s eight-year presidency and the ongoing challenges under the current administration, the north has become more politically conscious and demands leadership that addresses its realities.

“By God’s grace, in the next six months, the north will come out and tell their next direction,” Baba-Ahmed said. “It’s left for the rest of the country either to follow us or we go alone. We know nobody will become president without the north.”

Issuing a stern warning ahead of the 2027 elections, Baba-Ahmed cautioned that a flawed electoral process could have catastrophic consequences.
“Conducting a bad election in 2027 may lead to the end of Nigeria, I swear to God,” he said.

He added that northern elders and stakeholders were preparing to make a public declaration soon, signaling a critical shift in the region’s political engagement.
“There will be a time we will come out and say it’s okay, and it’s soon. This injustice is over. We know who we are,” he concluded.
