Northern group opposes Bwala’s possible appointment as Tinubu’s Spokesperson

Following the exit of Ajuri Ngelale as Presidential Spokesman, the rumours that Daniel Bwala may be named President Tinubu’s new spokesperson have been sharply criticised by the Nigeria Muslim League Group (NIMUL).

The group’s spokesperson, Professor Mika’il Jibrin, stressed in a statement given to the media in Sokoto on Sunday that although President Tinubu is able to pick anyone, the group is vehemently opposed to Bwala’s possible appointment.

Prior to the 2023 presidential election, Bwala, a well-known member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, publicly criticised President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima’s Muslim/Muslim ticket.

According to the statement, “NIMUL cannot trust Bwala in a position where he would be privy to critical issues that could make or mar Nigeria as a country”

The group raised concerns about how someone who has supported a campaign of calumny can be placed in such a delicate position, citing the example of Ajuri Ngelale, who experienced difficulties for standing up for Tinubu’s government.

“President Tinubu should understand that Nigerian Muslims appreciate respect and trust from the Presidency, and therefore, NIMUL advises the President to look for other individuals worthy of trust.

“Bwala is an opportunist trying to destroy what he did not build, and NIMUL urges the President to choose a person with proven integrity.

“We pray that President Tinubu will reconsider this appointment and choose someone who has not engaged in issues that could create tension and political crisis.

“We believes that this appointment could undermine the unity and political cohesion of the country, and therefore, urges caution”

The group reaffirmed its support for Nigeria’s peace and tranquilly and counselled the President to give these principles top priority when appointing new officials.

NIMUL urged President Tinubu to make a better-informed choice and urged other Nigerians to join them in rejecting this nomination.
