The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has taken decisive actions to confront a critical issue affecting its officers: affordable housing.
This was contained in a statement made public on Saturday by Force Spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
As part of a firm commitment to enhancing the capacity and welfare of its personnel, Adejobi said IGP Egbetokun has spearheaded the inaugural Nigeria Police Housing Summit, scheduled for April 22nd-23rd, 2024, at the prestigious Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
The Police noted that for years, it had observed that inadequate accommodation has been a persistent challenge for many officers, impacting their well-being and job performance.a and has therefore made it a paramount concern to ensure that every police officer has access to suitable and affordable housing.
The statement described the Nigeria Police Housing Summit as a pivotal gathering aimed at addressing the housing needs and hurdles faced by officers nationwide, adding ” It will bring together stakeholders from diverse sectors, including government officials, housing experts, real estate developers, financial institutions, and community organizations. The summit seeks to explore innovative solutions to the housing crisis affecting police officers”.
It added that the primary objective is to stimulate dialogue and devise strategies to enhance the living conditions of officers, acknowledging their indispensable role in maintaining community safety.
While revealing that the ways of exploring financial models and support mechanisms to facilitate affordable housing for police officers, as well as devising and adapting policies to improve housing solutions will be themes central to the summit, the NPF asserted the event would not only seek to enhance the well-being of officers but also contribute to the broader goal of fostering community safety and cohesion.
The statement further emphasized that as the nation commits to build a safer and more secure society, it is imperative men and women of the Police Force are adequately housed and supported in carrying out their duties effectively.
